Herbert Simon passed away this morning following a brief illness. A note circulating among researchers in complexity theory comments that "Herb's many contributions applying precise thinking and clear writing established him as a founder of several fields. His book, _The Sciences of the Artificial_ exemplifies these qualities and is a foundation for the complex systems field." Prof. Simon is well known among those in the fields of design and design research. Those who would like a chance to encounter or rethink the man and his work will enjoy reading Simon's autobiography, Models of my Life, published in 1966 by MIT Press. Ken Friedman --
