                        Simulation Modelling

An opportunity is available for a high calibre individual to study for a
PhD in simulation modelling while working part-time in a related role.
The PhD and research program will be fully funded with a salary paid to
the successful applicant (approximately £9,000 per annum). Initially the
appointment is for a period of 5 years, with the possibility of converting
to a full-time role with the industrial sponsor.

Half your time will be spent studying for the PhD in the Operational
Research and Systems Group at Warwick Business School
(www.wbs.warwick.ac.uk), under the supervision of Dr Stewart Robinson
(www.btinternet.com/~stewart.robinson1/SLRHOME.HTM). As such
you will be joining a lively, interdisciplinary research environment within
a prestigious business school. The business school’s doctoral
programme is a thriving community of more than 175 students and was
ranked first in Europe in the Financial Times Survey 2001. The exact
topic of the PhD is negotiable with the industrial partner.

The other half of your time will be spent working on consulting projects
with Paragon Simulation in Birmingham ({ HYPERLINK http://www.paragonsimulation.com) }www.paragonsimulation.com).
Here you will be involved in a wide variety of projects, working with blue-
chip companies. You will be analysing their strategic and operational
business needs, designing-developing-using business models, and on
occasions making use of the latest technologies such as virtual reality,
web-based solutions, and heuristic based optimisation. As such you
need to have a strong numerate background, and good interpersonal
skills, particularly the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly.

The successful candidate should have a good first degree (2i or above),
and preferably an MSc, in a related area. Applications are particularly
encouraged from candidates with an educational and/or employment
background in Operational Research, Operations Management or
Manufacturing/Production Engineering. The role is open to EU
nationals only. Employment will start from September 2001.
