UK Operational Research Society
Simulation Study Group One Day Meeting

Issues in Supply Chain Modelling

Wednesday 7th November 2001, 9:30am-4:00pm
Southampton Centre for OR/MS
Southampton University

A Supply Chain is a channel through which value is added to a product or
service for delivery to an end user. Many interested parties are connected
together in a supply chain through flows of information, resources,
materials, and money. How can these flows be effectively managed to meet a
clients needs? This was one of the main questions posed in May 2001 at the
Southern OR Group hosted event on Supply Chain Techniques for Commercial
Benefit at the University of Reading. Following on from this stimulating
meeting, the Simulation Study Group continues the discussion of one aspect
of this by considering how modelling and simulation can support the
management of a supply chain. To fuel this discussion, the following issues
will be considered: What are the key strategic issues that should be
considered in supply chain management? What techniques can be used to model
these? What are the emerging technologies that can support supply chain
modelling. There will be ample time during the meeting for informal
discussion where attendees will be encouraged to participate in the general
debate.

For further details of the meeting, please contact Sally Brailsford (Event
Chair) at [log in to unmask] or Simon Taylor. Support for travel to the
meeting is available through the EPRSC GROUPSIM Technology Programme Network
(www.groupsim.com). Applications for funding should be made by email to
Simon Taylor (GROUPSIM Chair) indicating why funding is sort. Awards will be
made on the basis of budget and need. Simon Taylor's email address is
