Sickness absence data by industryRoger,
Ah the Holy Grail !!!
The initial problem is over how the data is coded - ICD10, ICD9, Reid codes,
private codes.(Apples and Pears)
None of the above systems give detail about the industry causation e.g.
there is no code for Upper Limb Disorder.
Next problem is over the lack of benchmarking organisation to put this in
to. CIPD data seems most complete, but is skewed by the size of
organisation that employs HR professionals (no small businesses who now
employ 50% of all employees in companies <50 employees).

It is ironic that the best source of data is the HSE contract research on
Self Reported Work Related Illness which is derived from the Household
survey extension to the Census.

Be wary that the Holy Grail you seek may be a poison chalice when you find
it !

Subject: Sickness absence data by industry

  Hi,

I've been looking for data on sickness absence rates by cause for
different industries.

Barring a few company-based case studies, quite a lot of public sector
data and the annual survey carried out by the CBI (which doesn't really go
into the level of detail required) I've not had a lot of luck so far.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

  Cheers,

  Roger
