As a curator and archivist I am familiar with the gap between the
artistic approach and the non-inventive, non-artistic information tool.
the problem is that many times a different public is addressed.
designing a dynamic interface for an encyclopedic survey of media art in
Germany on cd-rom, we were criticized by many for making it too
"difficult" to access the information directly. and i think people were right.

Simon, this is certainly a project I would love to do - but as an
artistic project dealing with the topic of accessing information and not
as a tool to be used by thousands of people. Of course you can always
say that this dualistic opposition is wrong, and theoretically I agree.
But in practice, what we need is parallel ways of accessing information
that allow different users different approaches.

I agree - you just need to find money for these projects but I see more
and more institutions "stream" into that direction.
