Hallo,
in connection with the submarine coal mines the last pit pony at Ellington Colliery, Northumberland was mentioned.
When I was in South Wales in 1996 there were ponies in some small mines. That were Craig-y-Llyn (near Tower Colliery) and Lletty Philip (Rhos). Another one, Carn Cornell No2 was on its way to be reopened, also with the use of a pony. I believe all these three mines are closed now, but perhaps there are still ponies at other small mines.
Perhaps someboby knows more ?
