Further to Graham Brookes reply - the barytes working at Great Dun Fell is still in operation. They are reworking the old spoil yet again (as of last summer) and are moving this back and forth. Company is Waitings of Cliburn. In addition to Kirkby Thore gypsum mine, I believe the gypsum mine near Melton Mowbray/Sileby in Leicestershire is still operational and that the gypsum mine at Sherburn in Elmet closed several years ago.
