year.

ROYAL HOLLOWAY,
UNIVERSITY OF LONDON
DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL AND POLITICAL
SCIENCE
MSc in MEDICAL SOCIOLOGY
Applications are invited
for this well-established course which aims to
equip students to undertake
social research in health and health care. The
programme has 'RT'
recognition from the ESRC, i.e. the research training
provided exempts
students proceeding to PhD study from further general
research
training. It is also appropriate for those wishing to undertake
applied
social research in the health service or for those who are already
working in
the health service and wish to extend their research skills.
The course
may be taken over 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time
(daytime
classes normally 1 day per week). Course units include
sociology of health
& illness, health care organisation, theory &
methods of social research and
statistics & computing. Assessment
is by coursework, take-home essay papers
and a 10,000 word
dissertation.
The Department welcomes applications for the course from
students who
possess or expect to obtain a good first degree in sociology, a
related
discipline, or in an interdisciplinary programme including a
substantial
element of sociology. Applications from students with
appropriate
professional qualifications will be considered on an individual
basis.
Applicants wishing to be considered for an ESRC or MRC studentship
are
advised to apply as soon as possible, and preferably not later than
early
April.
