2 day CAQDAS INTRODUCTORY COURSE: introduction to software programs for
qualitative data analysis

COURSE DESCRIPTION (DRAFT)

Course topics will include reference to the types and conventions of
qualitative method,
history of CAQDAS development, an overview of principal types of CAQDAS
(text
retrievers, code-and-retrieve, theory builders), introductory practical
demonstrations in at least 5 packages (including multimedia) and  hands-on
workshops in at least 2 of these packages. The software featuring in
demonstrations/workshops will be selected from ATLAS.ti V 4.2, CTANKS,
HyperRESEARCH 2.0,  QSR N5  (NUD*IST V 5), QSR Nvivo 1.2,  The Ethnograph
version 5, The Observer, winMAX 99 Pro, . (The teaching format includes
lectures, discussion and practical sessions.

The course is aimed at full-time and part-time workers on research projects,
social science academics, research officers in organisations such as social
and health services and nursing, as well as postgraduate research students.
Current participation in a research project  or involvement in evaluation
research would be useful to get the most out of the course.  It is assumed
that the participants will have a working acquaintance with personal
computers.

Places at a range of fees are available depending on status - limited number
of specially reduced fees for students - and 2 free places to students with
no recourse to other funding for the course. These will be allocated on a
first come first served basis.
