Subject: Managing Editor of the VMOC Index -- Research Fellow Post

The Virtual Museum of Computing (VMOC) is the leading repository of
web-based resources for the history of computing.

A  joint project is being established between  South Bank University and
Warwick University to establish the VMOC Index, which will eventually
supercede the present web site. The VMOC Index will be a moderated index
which will include links that have been appraised by a review panel of
subject experts, and will filter out unreliable or trivial content.

The Managing Editor will be responsible for maintaining the web site and
supporting existing relationships with mirror sites in the United States,
Japan and Europe. S/he will interact with the editorial board and review
panels to validate links, and work with information providers.

Applicants should have a doctorate in a relevant discipline, plus a working
knowledge of the academic and web-based literature of the history of
technology and/or computing. Web-page development skills would be an
advantage, but training will be provided  if required.

The appointment will be on the Research Fellow scale for a fixed term of 3
years. Salary £21,024 - £33,810pa., pro-rata. Applicants for full- or
part-time posts will be considered. The post will be based at South Bank
University, London, but tele-working will be possible.
