Apologies for cross-posting.
The
interesting thing about these is the explicit link in the Framework for Senior
Managers between accessible website design and the requirements of the
Disability Discrimination Act. The Framework currently applies to National
Museums, and other NDPBs, and a version is clearly going to be applied to local
authority websites. the definitions will also cover the wider public sector,
which would include any institution receiving public funding -
including Lottery funding. Those institutions implementing projects and
following the NOF-digitise Technical Standards will generally be
unaffected.
I said
at the MCG meeting on Thursday how the new guidelines were about to come out,
and would be interesting. Indeed they are.

There's a Framework for senior managers - a summary
of main points of the Guidelines and changes from the first
version.
A version of the Guidelines for use by local
authority web management teams is being developed by the Digital Communications
team in consultation with representatives from local government. They will
consult widely when a draft is available, though they've invited web developers
to get in touch with them in advance of this notification at [log in to unmask]
Also coming soon: an Illustrated handbook for web
management teams will be out for consultation in the Government Web Developer
community.
