For those of you new to museum computing issues you may be interested in the
following information sources (there are more - but you'll have to look for
these yourself!):

- Museums Documentation Association (mda), advises museums on making the
best use of the knowledge associated with their collections, including
documentation and the use of ICT; annual conference - 2001 entitled
'Scanning the Horizon', a number of speakers from UK museums are listed to
speak on such subjects as online education and content creation.
Publications and on-line fact sheets include IT subject areas.
http://www.mda.org.uk/

- Resource: the Council for Museums, Archives and Libraries' web site
includes information about funding opportunities, for example, the IT
Challenge Fund and a summary of awards made under the Designation Challenge
Fund - many of these projects include a web/information and communications
technology dimension. The Resource web site also has links to:

- Area Museum Councils' web sites - these are a source of information,
including some ICT advice and training opportunities, at a regional level.
For example, see the Yorkshire Museums Council web site,
http://www.yorkshiremuseums.org.uk/live/

- Museums Association, articles about ICT in museums are often published in
'Museums Journal' and 'Museum Practice'. The MJ includes listings of
forthcoming conferences and training courses,
http://www.museumsassociation.org

- UK Office for Library and Information Networking (UKOLN) is a national
focus of expertise in digital information management. It provides policy,
research and awareness services to the UK library, information and cultural
heritage communities, http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/
UKOLN also publishes two e-magazines:

-- Ariadne, reports on information service developments and information
networking issues worldwide, http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/
- Cultivate Interactive is a UKOLN e-magazine funded under the European
Commission's Digital heritage and Cultural Content (DIGICULT) programme. The
current issue includes reports on last year's EVA (Electronic imaging and
the Visual Arts) conferences, http://www.cultivate-int.org/

- CHArt is open to all who have an interest in the application of computers
to the study of art and design. Annual conference, published conference
proceedings, newsletter and email discussion list, http://www.chart.ac.uk/
.
- Digital Resources for the Humanities (DRH) conferences are a major forum
for all those affected by the digitization of our common cultural heritage.
