The next IIS Southern Branch Evening meeting will be held on Tuesday 11th September at 'The City Pride', Farringdon Lane, Clerkenwell, London (Nearest Station Farringdon) at 6.30 pm. (Note venue change). Topic: Beyond Unification. Speaker: Guy Daines, Principal Policy Adviser at The Library Association. Guy is responsible for dealing with those issues that cross sectors and ensures that the LA has a 'joined-up' approach to them - issues such as: lifelong learning; regionalism and devolution; social inclusion; competitiveness; cultural policy, etc. The LA has established Policy Advisory Groups (PAGs) and so far the PAG on regionalism has reported and those on a national information policy and social inclusion are due to report later this year. In his talk, Guy will focus on the future of the profession, and in particular: convergence of 'knowledge' professions: changing employment patterns; cross-cutting agendas; and what our future professional body might look like. Free light refreshments afterwards. Please notify me at [log in to unmask] if you plan to attend. All welcome. Norman Briggs, Chairman IIS Southern Branch
