Practical classification and implementation of BC2. · Participants may attend Day 1 or Day 2, or both. Day 1 is intended for those with a general interest in classification, those who are occupied with the building of taxonomies, and BC2 users who may have limited knowledge of the principles and theory of the system. · Day 2 is primarily aimed at existing or potential BC2 users, or those who wish to learn about fully developed faceted classification structures in practice. · Both days will involve formal presentations, and workshop sessions aimed at learning practical skills. · Numbers are limited to 20 per day. Collecting and analysing vocabulary; working with categories and deconstructing compounds Lunch Session 3: Presentation and workshop: Order within categories; vocabulary control and synonyms; order in array; more detailed arrangement, and refinement of structure Session 4: Presentation and workshop: Uses of the classificatory structure; conversion to a thesaurus Open session; questions and conclusions Day 2 Introduction to the Bliss Bibliographic Classification 2nd edition Session 1: Presentation: The history and development of BC2; its role as a general scheme of classification and knowledge organizer.
