Second phase of senior management restructuring at the British Library

MIKE CRUMP APPOINTED HEAD OF COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT

Restructuring of the British Library’s senior management structure,
announced over the past few weeks, continues with the announcement today
that Mike Crump is to be Head of Collection Development.   In this new post
he will have responsibility for co-ordinating and overseeing implementation
of both internal and external aspects of the Library’s collection
development strategy and activities, and for contributing to policy
formation in this area.

Specific duties of the new post are:

To co-ordinate and monitor implementation of the British Library’s internal
collection development policies

To co-ordinate and monitor the Library’s participation in collaborative
collection development arrangements with other research libraries or
repositories, within the emerging concept of the Distributed National
Collection (or any international equivalent)

To make recommendations on future collection development policies and
collaborative collection development arrangements, informed by relevant
market research and management information

In the new post, Mike Crump will lead the negotiation and drafting of
collaborative collection development arrangements with other repositories
or consortia, with an emphasis on access arrangements as well as on those
for collecting and retention.

Commenting on the appointment, Director Designate of Scholarship and
Collections at the British Library, Dr Clive Field said: “I warmly welcome

organisational and service structure. It will be key to the holistic
management and development of the Library's world-class collections, and to
enabling it to play a full part in collaborative arrangements with other
leading repositories in the library, archive and museum domains. Mike
brings to the post an exceptional range of expertise, skills and networking
with the national and international information community.”

Mike Crump added: “I look forward to working with Clive and the new senior
team to develop the Library’s collections in association with other
libraries, and to provide the best possible resources for researchers now
and in the future.”
