Although the images and examples will have a biomedical focus, the knowledge and skills gained will be applicable across disciplines. Workshop One: Image Copyright, Image Management & Using PowerPoint to Create Image-based Tutorials: Date: Thursday 12th July 2001. 10am-4pm. Location: University of Bristol. Fee: £60. This workshop will look at several key issues involved in using images in learning and teaching and focus on the use of images within Computer Assisted Learning (CAL) tutorials created with PowerPoint. Tutors: Vince Jones, Technical Advisory Service for Images (TASI); Emeritus Professor John Bradfield (previously Professor of Histopathology, University of Bristol); Skip Cox, BB-LT. Topics: Copyright; Finding images; Formats; Basic image manipulation; Basic image management; Incorporating images into PowerPoint tutorials. The day will include practical exercises, hints and tips. Objective: To enable the delegate to enhance his/her skills in creating image-based learning and teaching resources through hands-on use of materials created for BB-LT under the supervision of resource creators and image experts. Who should attend: Members of the UK HE biomedical community who wish to incorporate images into their learning and teaching resources. Prerequisites: Delegates should be registered with the Bristol BioMed Image Archive before the day. BioMed registration is free for the UK HE community through http://www.brisbio.ac.uk/. University of Bristol. £60 This workshop will look at some simple techniques for using the Web authoring programme CALnet to create Web-based teaching materials with digital images. Although the images and examples will have a biomedical focus, the knowledge and skills gained will be applicable across disciplines. Tutors: Julian Cook, University of Bristol Learning Technology Support Service (LTSS); Anthony Telford, Dental School, University of Bristol; Skip Cox, BB-LT. Topics: An introduction to choosing images; basic CALnet page construction; incorporating image resources into basic Web pages; self-assessment quizzes. The day will include practical exercises, hints and tips. Objective: To enable the delegate to enhance his/her skills in creating image-based learning and teaching resources through hands-on use of materials created for BB-LT under the supervision of resource creators and image experts.
