THE BIG IDEA: the public library in the urban scene

CPI Library and Information Policy Seminar, Stamford, Weds 16 May 2001

Adapting services to meet changing needs is the focus of this seminar.
Almost 90% of our population lives in an urban area, whether city, town,
conurbation or suburbia, and the 'urban renaissance' is a Government
priority. Across the UK new building projects illustrate the role of the
public library in contributing to regeneration, skills and learning, social
inclusion, e-government, cultural development and sustainability. New
partnerships and experiments in service delivery are being tested.

The seminar will examine these issues via current developments in the
provision of services in urban settings, using practical examples of
innovative policy making, collaborative planning and reshaped modes of
delivery.
