Head of Information and Library Systems

We are seeking an experienced, energetic and innovative manager who can
lead the dynamic development of the Museum's information infrastructure.

The task is to co-ordinate the strategic development and positioning of the
Museum so that external and internal customers derive optimum benefit from
the information it generates and holds. This will be achieved by
advocating, developing and managing systems and technologies for
collecting, sharing and disseminating information about the natural world
gathered from both within and outwith the Museum.

You will lead provision of the Museum's information-based infrastructure,
services and collaborations through direction of the Department of
Information and Library Systems, membership of core corporate committees,
and through personal advocacy amongst key interest groups. You will be
actively involved in relevant national, European and international
information initiatives.

The Museum is internationally renowned for its collections, associated
research, educational programmes and exhibitions. It makes a major
contribution to science and to tackling issues of contemporary human concern.

The Library contains the world's richest and most comprehensive collection
of literature on natural history, including the third largest collection of
art on paper in the UK. Through management of the Library and of the
Museum's IT infrastructure, the Department provides essential support to
the institution's research and outreach programmes, as well as serving as a
national and international resource for information on the natural world.

This is a permanent and pensionable appointment with a salary of c£55k and
a contribution-free pension scheme. You should be able to take up post no
later than 3 June 2002.
