Following the correspondence regarding setting up an information centre, I
thought I should let you know that there are still a few places available on
the LA's two-day workshop 'How to set up a library or information centre
from scratch', which takes place in London on 5 & 6 December.

Invaluable for anyone involved in the process of setting up a library,
information or resource centre, this workshop will cover all the key issues,
from information auditing, acquisitions policy and budgeting, to specialist
classification systems and the evaluation of computer packages for the
smaller library.

BY THE END OF THE TWO DAYS PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE:
* conducted an information audit within their organisation
* put together an acquisitions policy based upon the information audit
* identified the key issues relating to specialist classification,
cataloguing systems and thesauri for the smaller library/information service
* explored the range available database software, and identified which might
be most appropriate for their needs
* considered policies and procedures that will ensure good resource
management issues
* explored issues affecting "solo" librarians

WORKSHOP LEADER: Kathy Roddy
Kathy is a qualified librarian and information manager with over seven
year's experience of research and fundraising within the voluntary sector.
