Text-encoding reviewers for the Early English Books Online (EEBO) Project

Grade: RS1A (£17,451-£26,229)

Two text-encoding reviewers are required as part of the Early English Books Online Text-Encoding Project. This project will involve the conversion of a large corpus of pre-1700 English printed books into machine-readable form, using XML encoding.

The reviewers will be responsible for checking and correcting texts and markup received from outside contractors who will carry out the initial keyboarding and markup. This will involve proofreading and providing quality assurance of the encoded texts, correcting errors, and ensuring that documents conform to the project's markup scheme.

Candidates should be educated to at least degree level, and should have some proof-reading skills and experience. Knowledge of foreign languages and of the conventions of early printing would be an advantage, as would experience/knowledge of XML.

The appointments will be for a fixed period of one year.

Further particulars are available at http://www.las.ox.ac.uk/vacancies/eebo-ter.html or from Emma Leeson to whom applications in the form of a CV and covering letter should also be sent (Emma Leeson, SERS, 65 St Giles, Oxford, OX1 3LU; [log in to unmask]). For an informal discussion of the post, please telephone Richard Gartner on 01865 277060. The closing date for applications is November 19th 2001.
