***Apologies for Cross-posting*** THE EARL FELLOWSHIP FOR PUBLIC LIBRARY NETWORKING: a Legacy for the Future In addition to the continuation of some of the EARL services by Co-East, UKOLN, and the People’s Network Development Team, EARL will provide a legacy for the future with the creation of the EARL Fellowship for Public Library Networking. This Fellowship will fund library students and their work placement in public libraries, promoting significant research in networking and career progression in public libraries. The EARL Management Board has set up a subcommittee that will consider proposals from schools of library studies and appropriate research centres, which support undergraduate and/or post-graduate students pursuing research in public library networking initiatives. The LASER foundation will act as agent for EARL, maintaining the EARL financial resources in a special account to be ear-marked for the EARL bursary. According to Colin Campbell, Chair of the EARL Management Board, “This is an imaginative and beneficial way in which we can continue to raise the profile of public library networking while continuing to support public libraries by attracting new professionals with interest and experience in public library networking. “ For further information, please contact Colin Campbell [log in to unmask] Notes for Editors 1. EARL is the preferred name for The EARL (Electronic Access to Resources in Libraries) Consortium for Public Library Networking. For six years, EARL has provided public libraries with such successful national networked services as Ask A Librarian, Familia, EuroGuide, Magnet, among others.
