Apologies for cross-posting.

We are re-advertising the following posts (previous applicants will be re-
considered):

Essex County Council, Corporate Services Directorate
Information Management and Technology Group

Community Information Network
We are a small team, part of the new Information Management and Technology
group, with responsibility for setting up a Community Information Network
for Essex. We are developing and managing a growing range of projects
which each make their own contribution to the developing Community
Information Network. These include SEAMLESS (www.seamless.org.uk), an
Essex Community Portal (Essex Online), the ISB funded "Live Community
Networks" project, the NOF funded SCADS project and two European funded
projects - PSINet (ww.publicsectorinfo.com) and PULMAN.

We have the following vacancies:

SCADS Project Officer Ref. No.:TT112
Temporary or Secondment
Salary £21,702 - £22,971 p.a. (pro rata)
18.5 hours per week for 2 year period

The SCADS project (Seamless Citizens' Access to Distributed Sources) will
create a web-based Citizen's Gateway: a single point of access to
information from multiple sources. Important benefits of SCADS include:
Enabling people to find information from national and local sources in a
single search
Selection by the project team of information from the best available
sources, ensuring the use of the up to date standards and common indexing
terms
Searching websites and databases together, providing a single set of
results for the user.
Searching for information by subject and place.

The SCADS project builds on SEAMLESS, an earlier project in Essex, through
which a large number of local information providers are co-operating to
provide information services to the public.

We require an enthusiastic, adaptable individual to assist in the
realisation of this project. The work will include liaison and co-
ordination with project partners (including national information providers
and other local authorities), activities focusing on the agreement and
adoption of common standards (including metadata etc) and work on
terminology issues and thesauri.

Live Community Networks Project Officer Ref. No.:TT113
Temporary or Secondment Opportunity
Salary: £23,451 - £24,750 p.a. (pro rata)
18.5 hours per week initially for one year, with possible extension for
further 2 years.

The Live Community Networks Project will pilot the development of a
Community Information Network in Basildon and Clacton and Harwich,
focussing on children and young people and their families, especially those
at risk of social exclusion. The project will serve as a pilot for a much
broader Community Information Network covering the whole of Essex and
serving all sectors of the community.

We require a well-motivated individual with a flexible approach to take on
the day to day organisation of this project. Duties will include fostering
partnership and co-operation between all relevant parties, monitoring
progress, compiling project reports, investigating and procuring content
management software and setting up and developing layered portals. In
addition, he/she will be required to co-ordinate activities relating to
monitoring and evaluation, marketing and promotion and dissemination.
