Dear lis-linkers

Usual apologies for cross-posting.

Promoting books and reading ? workshop
          Wednesday 4th April 2001 in Birmingham, 10.30am ? 4 pm

This is your chance to have your say on good practice in promoting books
and reading across the library, publishing and bookselling sectors.

The workshop will provide the opportunity both to hear speakers from all
the sectors, and to discuss draft guidance for good practice in
collaborative promotional projects, before this is distributed to
practitioners in all the sectors.

The day is part of the final output of a BNBRF-funded research project
being undertaken at the University of Central England in Birmingham (UCE)
which has sought evidence of good practice in this area, and the views of
practitioners from all the sectors.

Speakers will include:

David Lindley Books for Students
Chris Meade Booktrust
Guy Pringle Guisemarketing (Freelance publisher)
Jonathan Douglas Library Association
Genevieve Clarke National Literacy Trust
Linda Bennett Waterstone's

It is hoped that as many practitioners as possible from all sectors of the
book world will take the opportunity to contribute to this research, in
order to make the guidance booklet as effective as possible.

The cost of the day will be £25 which will cover workshop materials as well
as tea/coffee mid-morning and afternoon and a light buffet lunch (including
vegetarian option).

Draft guidance will be issued to paid-up delegates in the week preceding
the workshop.

Please book now to ensure a place, as these will be allocated strictly on a
first come, first served basis. If you would like to know more about the
day, please contact Stella Thebridge as below. If you prefer to have a
booking form sent to you or a colleague, please contact Trish Ellis
