Internet Gateway Services
Content Co-ordinator

ALC Grade 2 (£19,482 - £25,213)

A committed and enthusiastic individual is required for this exciting
and challenging opportunity to work on the development of content for
one of the Internet gateway services being developed under the
auspices of the Consortium of Academic Libraries in Manchester of
which the John Rylands University Library is a member.  These services
form part of the JISC Resource Discovery Network (RDN) and will focus
on providing a very high quality subject gateway service in the
physical sciences, and also in geography and the environment.  The
University of Manchester is the grant-holding institution for this
service.

The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for
supervising the creation, management and quality control of content
published on the internet site. As part of this role, the successful
candidate will develop effective cataloguing, indexing and resource
description and evaluation procedures.  S/he will co-ordinate and
oversee the work of content providers, will take a lead in developing
training policies, assist in identifying new content opportunities and
in the marketing and promotion of the service.

The person appointed will be a good organiser and communicator, and
will have experience in the use of the internet for information
provision, the use of bibliographic datasets, and a good knowledge of
cataloguing and classification procedures gained in a workplace
environment.  Candidates should have a degree or equivalent
qualification.

The post is offered for one year in the first instance but it is
anticipated that subject to funding the post will continue on a
longer-term basis.

Metropolitan University, Minshull House, 47-49 Chorlton Street,
Manchester M1 3EU.
