0100,0100,0100* Apologies for cross-posting CALIM (The Consortium of Academic Libraries in Manchester) is proud to present a one day event on Managing a Converged Library Service, 28th February 2002, 10.00-16.30 at Salford University, Clifford Whitworth Conference Centre. Many institutions have been operating integrated academic support services for a number of years, whilst others have steered clear. This session brings together key speakers who have been involved in converged services in the UK, a number working in very different operational situations. They include the following people: *Margaret Duncan, Deputy Director, University Information Services (formerly Academic Information Services), University of Salford (Chair) *Jeremy Andrew, Head of Information Services, Library and Learning Resource Services, University of Central Lancashire *Sheila Corrall, Director of Academic Support Services, University of Southampton *Paul Jeorrett, User Services Manager, North East Wales Institute (NEWI) *Lyndon Pugh, Researcher and Trainer and Managing Editor of Multimedia Information and Technology *Michele Shoebridge, Acting Librarian and Director, Information Services, University of Birmingham 0100,0100,0100*Tim Stone, Director of Learning Resources, University of Luton In addition to providing an overview of convergence, this event will offer case studies of a range of converged institutions. These will include one study which highlights the strategic and operational issues surrounding service convergence and the approach to unification, and another which outlines how the University’s library, computing and media services were merged, de-converged and then re-aligned as part of broader corporate changes. There will be managers’ views on what has been good and bad about convergence, and the views of staff involved in the frontline. Overall, this day will offer a significant and unique opportunity for the sharing of experience. The cost of the event is £80.00 (a discounted fee of £60 is available for staff who belong to NoWAL (the North West Academic Libraries Group) and includes refreshments and a buffet lunch.
