          ****CLIP, THE CALIM CERTIFICATE IN LIBRARY AND
                      INFORMATION PRACTICE****

                      **INTERNET SKILLS UNIT**


CLIP is a new and unique programme on offer as part of CALIM's
staff training and development activities. Validated by the GMOCN
(the Greater Manchester Open College Network), CLIP offers the
opportunity to obtain nationally recognised credits for successfully
completing staff development in a range of subject areas including
Library and information skills, Internet skills, IT, Customer service
and Management.


There are now spaces available on the Internet skills unit. Running
from the 23rd of January 2002 to the 8th of May 2002, this unit
comprises 8 taught sessions and is taught by experienced trainers
at UMIST, Manchester. At the end of the unit participants will have:


* learnt where the Internet came from and why it is so successful

* understood the use of the Web and other Internet tools

* discovered the best ways to find and evaluate information on the
Web

* designed and built their own web pages

* used the Web as a communication tool

* seen how the Web is used in the academic community.


The cost of the Internet skills unit is £450.00 and as well as 8
taught sessions, this fee includes up to 4 hours individual support
from the tutors and ongoing mentor support.
