NATIONAL LIBRARY OF SCOTLAND

MANUSCRIPTS CURATOR
RARE BOOKS CURATOR

starting salary between £15,068 and £18,348, up to £27,265

Edinburgh

Scotland’s premier library – one of the largest in the United Kingdom –
is seeking to appoint several specialist staff.

The Manuscripts Curator will take part in all aspects of work in the
Manuscripts division but will specialise in two main areas: the
development and application of IT to Manuscripts activities, especially
cataloguing; and the acquisition and cataloguing of later 19th and 20th
century political, trade union and business papers

The Rare Books Curator will take part in all of the activities of the
Rare Books division – selection, cataloguing, preservation, exhibitions,
and assisting readers. The successful applicant will be encouraged to
develop specialised fields of interest.

For the Manuscripts post, research experience in 19th and 20th century
history is highly desirable and an archive qualification or experience
would be useful. For the Rare Books post, research experience and also
experience within one or more of the main areas of rare book
librarianship would be useful. For both these posts, a good first
degree in the humanities is required and IT competency, a keen interest
in web technology and a knowledge of specialised IT applications are
essential.

For a full job description (also available in large print) please write
to the Personnel Unit, National Library of Scotland, George IV Bridge,
Edinburgh EH1 1EW or e-mail [log in to unmask] The closing date for
