Information Officer - Visual Arts Data Service, Farnham

Salary circa £17K

Fixed term until 31 July 2002 in the first instance

The Visual Arts Data Service (VADS) is a part of the Arts & Humanities Data
Service providing on-line resources and advice to UK higher and further
education.

Working as an integral member of the VADS team you will be responsible for
the administration and the provision of information about VADS through
publicity activities, outreach events and through acting as a point of
contact for VADS users.

You will have either a background in information, libraries, museums or
archives, or a relevant information based qualification.  A knowledge or
experience of the Visual Arts is desirable. In addition you will have the
ability to work flexibly as part of a team.

Crafts Study Centre Collection and Archive, Farnham

Documentation Officer

Circa £15k (fixed-term contract until July 2003)

The Crafts Study Centre has an international reputation as a unique
collection and archive of 20th Century British crafts including ceramics,
textiles, lettering and wood together with reference books, documents,
photographs and craftmen’s working notes.

Following the Centre’s relocation to Farnham last year and a grant from the
Joint Information Systems Committee, we are now looking to recruit a
Documentation Officer to assist with the development of an electronic
resource of images of 20th Century crafts which is delivered over the web
and useful for teaching and learning.

The position requires a sound working knowledge of information technologies
associated with digitising documents and visual materials.  You will be
highly computer literate, with good visual skills, attention to detail and a
methodical approach to your work.  Able to work on your own initiative and
as part of a team, you will be able to see projects through to their
completion.

You should have experience of museum documentation to MDA standards. A post
graduate professional museum qualification is desirable as is experience of
working with craft/decorative art collections.
