a) BIOSIS Previews Update
-------------------------
CHEST has now received the pricing for provision of the backfile
(1969-1984) for BIOSIS Previews from Datastar. The annual cost will be
£1,000 and will be in addition to the service provision fee for the main
file (1985 - present). Please remember that payment of an additional
data fee is also required for sites wishing to access the backfile.

ISI has also provided new information. The annual service provision fee
from ISI includes the backfile. Sites wanting to sign with ISI may
choose which file depth they want, the service provision fee is the same
in either case. They also say: "Sites that are signed up for publisher
links in WoS will get publisher links in BP too, when they are added (in
version 2). There is no charge for inter-product linking. Version 2
(should be released before the end of this year or early next year) will
have links to publisher full text. Sites who have paid for links in WoS
will not have to pay again to have them in BP, however, sites that have
not selected links in WoS will have to pay the one-off fee if they want
to have links in BP (and WoS)." The form to complete is the Addendum
Form (.rtf file) for the addition of additional products to your
existing Licence for ISI Web of Science. Please send two completed
Addendum Forms to CHEST.

EDINA will be mounting the backfile, and while they are assessing the
cost, they hope to be able to offer access to current subscribers
without charging an additional access fee. If your site is a current
subscriber and wishes to access the back data please send an email
message requesting this to <[log in to unmask]> and copy the
message to <[log in to unmask]>

b) Call for expressions of interest in PsycARTICLES
---------------------------------------------------
CHEST is currently in negotiation with American Psychological
Association for the provision of PsycARTICLES. We are seeking a
multi-year agreement at a discounted rate.

PsycARTICLES is an online database containing more than 25,000
searchable full-text articles from 42 journals published by APA and
allied organisations from 1988 to the present, with earlier years in
production.

The PsycARTICLES database covers general psychology and specialised
basic, applied, clinical, and theoretical research in psychology.

In order to proceed further with negotiations CHEST needs to ascertain
how many institutions and NHS sites would be interested in an agreement
for this product, which appears on our wishlist
<http://www.chest.ac.uk/general/datawishes.html>.

Please complete the following questionnaire and return by e-mail to
Allen McCarrol <[log in to unmask]> with the subject line of
PsycARTICLES.

1. I would be interested in principle in an agreement for PsycARTICLES.
   Y/N

2. I would be interested in a 3 year* agreement / 5 year* agreement

   * delete as applicable

c) Additional Training Service for UK Education
-----------------------------------------------
The following is a message sent out by MIMAS:

Each new academic year traditionally commences with training programs
within institutions, helping users to make the most of the resources
provided. In order to alleviate the impact of this 'training load' on
the service, JISC and ISI have agreed the creation of a dedicated WoS
Training Service, to be run on its own server. This will help quantify
the load and assist the JISC, MAU and MIMAS in capacity planning.

The service will be made available in September – a detailed
announcement will be made once the formal amendment to the agreement
negotiated by EduServ (CHEST) has been signed - and remain until 31st
December 2001. The service is intended for on-campus training purposes
only and will support up to 200 concurrent users in total.
