Like Fytton, I first came across the acronym ICT shortly after the Dearing Report. In the Dearing Report, it was, if I remember correctly, C&IT. I think the Communication was included because the Information is from the rather narrow definition based on the work of Shannon & Weaver. Their work dealt with the transmission of information (signal processing), so became invaluable in computer networking. However, although S & W refer to information a great deal, their work is more to do with communication. Don't know if that's any help to Helen, but I thought I'd add my pennyworth.
