Dear All Many thanks to those of you who responded to my request for information about library assistants' training and development. Several people asked me to summarise for the list, so here goes: * several institutions are using NVQs successfully - this is beneficial not only for the library assistants, but also for the other staff who become qualified assessors at the same time * CoFHE East Midlands is running a series of development sessions for library assistants * Consortium of Academic Libraries In Manchester (CALIM) has developed a Certificate in Library and Information Practice (CLIP) accredited by OCN * one institution has a weekly training hour when the library is closed, and staff have to be involved in some training. Staff keep personal development portfolios which they use as a record of training attended, and to plan future development. Thanks again, Janet ************************************************************************* Janet Westcott Assistant Librarian (Resource Planning & Management) The Open University Library Walton Hall Milton Keynes MK7 6AA Tel: 01908 659280 e-mail: [log in to unmask]
