OCLC has announced the formation of the Digital and Preservation Resources Division to expand current capabilities and provide integrated solutions for creating, accessing and preserving digital collections. Services include: digitising collections from paper or microfilm; adding metadata and full-text search capabilities to digitised collections to improve searchability; adding bibliographic records for digitised collections to WorldCat to increase access; safe and secure storage and archiving for microfilmed or digitised collections; and opportunities to collaborate on digital collection development and grant funding. If you are attending the Online Information conference in London December 4-6, 2001, you will have several opportunities to learn how OCLC Digital and Preservation Resources services can increase collection access today and ensure long-term preservation tomorrow. 1) Visit the OCLC Stand No. 38 to see a demonstration of how Olive Software's ActivePaper Archive(tm) is being used to digitise and provide article level access to historic newspapers. We'll also demonstrate how the Web Document Digital Archive Project can help you capture and manage long-term retention of and access to web-based documents. 2) Attend a session for an in-depth look at these new services. Sessions are being held on December 5 at 2:30-3:30 p.m. and repeated at 4:00-5:00 p.m. Hilton National London Olympia Hotel, Kensington High Street, London W14. 3) Register ([log in to unmask]) for our workshop, All the News That's Fit to Scan: Increasing Access to Historic Newspapers.
