Posted on behalf of Margaret Blackburn, comments please to [log in to unmask] With apologies for cross-posting - Please pass the following information on to any colleagues who maybe interested: UNIVERSITY OF LONDON LIBRARY SCANNING THE MAIN CARD CATALOGUE - CARDS TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE March - September 2001 The University of London Library is about to embark on a project with Bell & Howell Imaging International, to create electronic images of the remaining entries in its Main Card Catalogue, which will be mounted on the Library's Web Page. This will make it much easier for people to investigate the older resources of the Library electronically, without having to make a special visit. The Card Catalogue contains information about works published before 1980 which have not yet been incorporated into the computer catalogue. Consequently it is generally the much older and currently less used material that is still recorded only on the cards. The project is due to start in March 2001, and will continue for the following 6 months. It is anticipated that the full range of images will be available on the Web Page by September 2001. During the period from March - September, sections of the card catalogue will be briefly unavailable on a progressive basis. We anticipate that batches of cards will be removed and returned within a 3-week period, and we apologise for the inconvenience that this will inevitably cause for users of the Library. Prospective visitors to the Library who may need to make use of the Card Catalogue are advised to contact the Library in advance to confirm whether the cards they need are available. Information on the progress of the project will also be given on the Library's Web Page. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Margaret Blackburn Head of Special Collections Cataloguing, and Projects University of London Library Senate House Malet Street London WC1E 7HU Tel: (44) 020 7862 8472 Fax: (44) 020 7862 8480 Email: [log in to unmask]
