A Warning to FE librarians about a misleading offer I recently received through the post a couple of large glossy posters from WHSmith advertising a 10% discount on textbooks for students with an NUS card. On ringing to confirm exactly which students are eligible I was told that it only applied to full-time students over the age of 18. I was very glad I had rung before displaying the posters as, of course, although our students are all NUS members very few are both over 18 AND full-time. I guess this is true of most FE colleges. I was quite cross with the WHSmith policy since: a) The publicity material in no way makes this clear b) The majority of the textbooks they sell are specifically aimed at the FE market.
