I have just returned from a day's leave, so this may be too late to be of any interest, but I can't resist commenting that there are TWO extant versions of 'Jour de fete', one in black and white with occasional hand-tinted effects, and the other in colour. This is because Tati originally filmed it (in 1949) with two cameras for each shot, one using an experimental colour process called 'Thomsoncolour' and the other using black-and-white film as a back-up. The labs were unable to make prints from the Thomsoncolour negatives, and the film was released in black-and-white. Half a century later, Tati enthusiasts and technicians did succeed in making prints from the colour negatives, and this version was then released for the first time. This is the version recently televised. It looks odd, either because the 50-year-old negatives had faded or because the process had a very limited palette, a bit like 1920s-style 2-strip Technicolor - many shots consist mainly of pink and cyan. The two versions are not the same: there are sequences in the black-and-white version that have no equivalent in the colour one. Better specify which version you want! You can get this video for 5.99 at the following URL: http://www.blackstar.co.uk/circle/search?words=jour+de+fete Funnily enough, Blackstar list the title twice at 2 different prices, but I've seen it in video shops for 5.99 - probably cheaper than setting up a trade!
