Dear Ronan, Regarding your request, there is one case of contact metamorphic amphibolites in the Rhodope zone, Northern Greece, which I have seen and described myself, in the framework of my PhD thesis. These rocks are partly to completely transformed into cpx-opx plag 'hornfelses'. In the field one can observe still relics of the original amphibolite in form of a few cm-large 'patches' in a greenish (cpx dominated) rock. These amphibolites occur together with many other regional metamorphic rocks (e.g marbles, ultramafics, metapelites), which were also affected by contact metamorphism caused by a granodiorite intrusion. There is some description, mineral chemistry, met. conditions etc. in my thesis, which you may find through Laurent Jolivet / Bruno Goffe (ENS, Paris). Bruno Goffe should have it. I hope that helps. cheers Anthi Liati At 18:46 08.10.01 +0200, you wrote: >Dear All, > >Does anyone know a case of contact metamorphism overprinting a regional >metamorphism within metabasites? > >If you know such example of geological context, could you please provide me >with references and outcropping conditions? > >Many thanks in advance. > >Ronan > > > >""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" >Ronan HEBERT >Departement des Sciences de la Terre et de l'Environnement >Universite de Cergy-Pontoise >8, Le Campus, Batiment I >95031 Cergy cedex - France >Phone : (33) 01 34 25 49 41 - Fax : (33) 01 34 25 49 04 >Email : [log in to unmask] >""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" > http://www.u-cergy.fr/rech/labo/equipes/tecto/index.html > ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr Anthi Liati Institute of Isotope Geology and Mineral Resources Department of Earth Sciences ETH-Zentrum Sonneggstr. 5, 8092 Zürich Tel. ++41 1 632 6607 ++41 1 632 3764 (secretary Mrs. Britt Meyer) Fax ++ 41 1 632 1827
