Graeme's comments
are based on the misconception that the internet is all about a one-way flow of
information. In fact Graeme's exchange with Roland demonstrated perfectly
what we can actually achieve through the internet - communication and discussion
between many people at great distance from each other on a theme of specialised
interest. This discussion was convened through the GEM list, but a museum
(or any other) website at its best can aim to achieve this as
well. The museum's website becomes a social space - like a meeting room in
the museum. The information on the site should be subservient to this
role, in my opinion.
