EXCITING OPPORTUNITY FOR MUSEUMS TO DELIVER EDUCATIONAL MATERIAL VIA BROADBAND
The WMY Group www.wmy.co.uk is based in the North West of England and has particular experience in project management and lifelong learning. At present, they are managing and implementing a Feasibility Study for the South Yorkshire E-Learning Programme. The programme is one of many that aims to regenerate the South Yorkshire region, focusing specifically on building up ICT skills across the area and ensuring people are adept in the new technology age. The WMY Group and Consultant Sally Kellet of Tap The Tree Digital Marketing Media have been looking at innovative ways of testing new mechanisms for delivering educational material into the classroom from a wide variety of cultural resources in line with the latest directives from Culture Online.

The educational content channels being built within the South Yorkshire e-learning Programme by the WMY Group, will offer learners the opportunity to tune into a CULTURAL CHANNEL. It is through this channel that Museums can take the opportunity to deliver their educational material directly into the classroom, which could be in the format of resources that they already have available (learning material, video etc).

Learners would be introduced to cultural content as a by product of this approach. An important factor is that these schools will have access to Broadband technology, so will be able to access dome the richest sources of cultural information.

The pilot project will test how material can be delivered from one area to another with a view to creating a blueprint channel for delivering a series of museum 'education carriages' into the classroom. Material from local and national sources will be delivered into South Yorkshire via the South Yorkshire e-learning programme and the delivery mechanics monitored and evaluated. The main focus of the project would be to eradicate the boundaries set by geographical limitations and there is no reason why national or global links cannot be made.

WMY is currently looking for museums would be willing to offer material for the pilot project. The cost to the museums is nothing more than a willingness to participate. They are also interested in locating a museum who would let them track, via Webcast Technology, the way in which an exhibition is put together so that the learners could see how the skills and knowledge they are learning at school are synthesised in the workplace to produce these 'glorious results'.
