I have been asked to post this up as part of a Resource-funded research prject.  Replies to the address below, please, not to me.

As part of its ongoing response to the Green Paper on Modernising Local Government Finance, Resource has commissioned me to carry out research into the current position regarding Fair Funding and the likely impact on museum education services of increased delegation of funding to schools. A formal questionnaire has already been sent out to 30 museum services around the country and any additional contributions from other museum services are most welcomed. I have selected below several of the questions from the formal survey to provide a framework for any GEM members wishing to make a response.

1. If the museum has been under pressure or directly affected either in previous rounds or the current round of LEA funding delegation what arguments and actions were used/are being used to defend funding?

2. If funding has been delegated, what was the impact on the museum and what measures were taken to maintain/continue the education service?

3. Did the museum or LEA conduct any surveys amongst local schools to assess potential % buy-back from schools and did actual levels meet expected targets?

4. If buy-back was less than expected to maintain the schools education service, what action was taken?

5. Do you have any other comments on Fair Funding or any other key issues currently affecting your museum education service?

Responses should be forwarded to me at the address/email below by Friday 9th February or alternatively please feel free to call me anytime this week.
