Does size matter?
Approaches to visitor evaluation projects of different size

11 - 4 pm, 29 March 2001
Discovery Centre, Manchester Museum

As evaluation is becoming a prerequisite of most funding bodies in the
cultural sector, museums are trying different approaches. Should you keep
visitor evaluation small or aim for the bigger picture? When should you
carry it out on your own with in-house staff and when should you approach
external consultants? Each approach raises various issues, such as
management of time and resources, collaboration with different institutions,
training and sharing of skills. And more importantly, whatever approach you
choose, how are the results going to inform everyday practice?
A number of speakers that work with or in institutions from the North West
and beyond will talk about their experience with different types of projects
and levels of evaluation. The event will be hosted at the new Discovery
Centre of Manchester Museum and will be followed by a guided tour of the new
and planned displays.

Speakers

Bernadette Lynch, Manchester Museum - "Asking Communities: Museum Audience
Evaluation in Action"

services of three Manchester museums: Manchester Museum, Museum of Science
and Industry, City Art Galleries"
