The Circle Project (a Community Arts organisation) has obtained an Awards for All grant to fund a trial programme of Rural Artsreach, between November 2001 and June 2002. The scheme will deliver participatory arts workshops, to rural communities who do not have easy access to the arts, in partnership with community bodies such as councils, libraries and local museums within the South East England. The objectives of the scheme are: To allow the opportunity to work with professionals dedicated to the sharing and development of creative skills. To encourage personal development of the individual participants, encouraging teamwork and building self-confidence through the use of creative expression. To develop networking and local partnerships within the participating communities. Sun Jester have been commissioned to administer the scheme and to provide the professional arts workers to deliver the workshops. This scheme would provide an excellent opportunity for a museum to develop new, or build upon existing, links with its local community. Most of the resources have already been provisionally allocated, however, if the scheme is successful the Circle Project will seek funding to extend the duration and geographic area of the scheme.
