Afternoon all, The present lull in the discussion might be a useful time to remind folks about the options that exist to look at the archives of messages for the conference. All messages sent to the list are archived on the JISCmail computer, and can be viewed in a variety of ways either by web access or using email. The web site http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/fish.html provides a searchable interface to allow you to find a particular message. You can: - 1) Click on 'Search the archives' to open a form that allows you to run a serach using a term such as 'GIS' to retreive all messages with that in the text or subject. There are also the usual Boolean operators to allow you to refine your search. This option also allows you to search by authors name. A Help screen gives you more hints and tips for searching. 2) Click on a particular month and view all messages sent in that month. I have just updated the default view so that messages are listed in the order they are sent to the list, rather than by subject in this view. This view means you can follow the course of discussion over time. The message archive is, as far as I am aware, a fairly stable resource. The url above should work at least for the next couple of years - so it would be suitable for quoting in reports or linking in to your own web-sites to provide reference to the conference discussion. An alternative is to use email to request message logs from the JISCmail computer. This will send you a complete copy of all the messages sent in a particular month. To do this, send the following command to [log in to unmask] get fish LOG0110 -- The LOGname uses year and month numbers to identify which log you want - so the above example is for 2001,October (this month). You receive a long message (196 KB of data so far this month), which can be a bit difficult to follow: as with 'digest' versions some messages get repeated in an HTML format... there doesn't seem to be much we can do about that. Best wishes Edmund Lee
