For those folks that read this...what Chris is saying here is that Old Growth is dead as a ecological entity, and concept. Old growth forests are the equivalent of a climax ecosystem....The timber mining sector has Word Smiths working on re-writting all ecological texts so as to dispell the belief that Old Growth is good environment for dependent species and the restoration of ecosystem function, including evolutionary genetics.  
 
 
Bissell here: Good one John. Since you cannot answer the argument, attack the person. And, if the person doesn't say what you want, just make up some weird stuff and say they said it. Of course the mining and timber industry is paying to have text books rewritten. Why in my 30+ years as a professional ecologist I can't tell you the number of times I've been told by the timber and mining folks what to say and write. Actually I can, zero.
