NEW EPSRC FUNDED MSc COURSE IN GEOENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING TO START AT
CARDIFF UNIVERSITY IN SEPTEMBER 2001

The Geoenvironmental Research Centre at the Cardiff School of Engineering is
pleased to announce the launch of a new MSc in Geoenvironmental Engineering,
established with support from the UK's Engineering and Physical Science
Research Council (EPSRC). The course is an innovative partnership between
the Cardiff School of Engineering, the Department of Earth Sciences and the
Cardiff School of Biosciences.

The course is designed to provide students with a theoretical and practical
knowledge of geoenvironmental engineering. Industrial involvement with the
design and delivery of the course is extensive. A feature of the MSc is a
series of short, workshop style training courses covering practical aspects
of geoenvironmental engineering applications, which integrate professional
practice issues with the scientific and engineering foundation of the MSc.
These are delivered by recognised professional practitioners in the
industry.

This one year full-time MSc is to provide a foundation for careers in
geoenvironmental engineering, geoenvironmental monitoring, and
geoenvironmental management. It is intended for graduates in specialist
areas of civil engineering, environmental engineering, earth sciences or
biology, who wish to enhance their engineering and scientific skills across
these disciplines.

Admission to the MSc in Geoenvironmental Engineering requires a good first
degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, earth sciences or
biosciences, or in a cognate numerate scientific discipline, or appropriate
professional experience.

AVAILABLE FUNDING
Fully funded EPSRC studentships are available and normal EPSRC eligibility
rules apply. To be eligible for consideration for a full (fees plus a
contribution to living expenses) EPSRC studentship applicants must be what
is termed 'ordinarily resident' in the UK throughout the three years
preceding their application. Applicants should also possess a first-class or
upper second-class honours degree from a UK higher education institution,
although there are exceptions to this. Applicants from outside the UK but
within the European Union can be considered for a fees-only studentship.

A limited number of Cardiff School of Engineering International
Scholarships, worth up to GBP1000, are also available for international
students applying for this MSc course.
