TOM CLARESON REJOINS OCLC AS DIGITAL COOPERATIVE MANAGER

Thomas F.R. Clareson has been named product manager of the Digital Cooperative, OCLC Digital and Preservation Resources, a new division of OCLC.
As product manager, Mr. Clareson will assist cultural institutions with the life cycle management of digital assets, from creation to long-term retention and access.  The Digital Co-op will be a focal point for collaboration to identify support and information for libraries and other institutions seeking to digitize, preserve and publish collections.
For the past decade, Mr. Clareson was Imaging and Preservation Services manager at Amigos, an OCLC-affiliated regional network, where he planned, coordinated and managed an information and education service on the preservation and digitization of library and archival materials for over 690 institutions in a five-state region.  Mr. Clareson delivered over 40 presentations and workshops annually on various preservation issues.  He specialized in grant writing and emergency preparedness and recovery.
"OCLC's Digital and Preservation Resources brings together an array of people and resources that can offer help to cultural heritage institutions in digitizing and preserving their collections," Mr. Clareson said.  "To build the most useful digital collections, collaboration, education, and communication will be key, and the Digital Cooperative will assist in all of those activities."
Prior to joining Amigos, Mr. Clareson was membership and cooperative programs administrator at OCLC, where he administered OCLC's national preservation activities, worked with user groups and assisted with other national programs.
He is a past chair, Preservation and Reformatting Section (PARS), American Library Association.  He has been a graduate school instructor in preservation management at University of Texas at Austin and University of California at Los Angeles.
Mr. Clareson earned a master's degree in Library Science from the Kent State University/Columbus Program; a master's degree in Journalism from The Ohio State University; and a bachelor's degree in English Literature and Journalism from Ohio Wesleyan University.
