It should also not be used as a method of putting off (sorry, minimising) legitimate requests. The fee can be charged but many organisations will not ask for the money - maybe as a public/employee relations exercise. Remember you will need your employees' consent for holding sensitive data such as sickness details - how many of your employees will refuse that consent once they find out you are charging them for a copy of the information they gave you for nothing?
