My organisation opens all mail unless marked "Private and Confidential".
The reason given for this, is that all mail coming in should relate to business matters and if that is the case the business is that of the organisations, so technically it is their mail anyway!!!..., despite the fact that it has your name on it, .....But in any case you are employed as part of the business, so the mail still does not technically belong to you!!.
It is the organisations policy that mail that is strictly personal should not be directed to the work address, unless absolutely necessary. The work address is for just that, "WORK". and not "PERSONAL".

The organisation I work in has a central post-in room where all mail is
opened unless it is marked private & confidential. The reason for this is
that a large quantity of donations are received in the daily postbag and the
post-in team must log details of each donation received to minimise the risk
of money going astray. Because of the volume of money handled, security is
very tight - staff may not take any personal belongings into the room but
have to use lockers outside. A minimum of 2 staff must be present in the
room at all times, cctv is in operation as well as access to the room being
swipe-card restricted.
