I am new to the list and am puzzled by the messages I have read so far. I thought data protection was about protecting the individual's integrity and fundamental right to privacy. Nothing I have read so far seems to have anything to do with that. The message that has been discussed may be spam and may be a nuisance, but does it really threaten anyone's integrity as an individual, or their fundamental right to privacy? It seems to me more like a run-of-the-mill consumer protection issue. Is a sense of proportion(ality)needed? FINE Data Protection Act 1998 Apology missed the attached form which followed the letter. Note it did charge a fee adding ?50 (but did indicate the mandatory cost). Marketing technique may be clever but is it illegal?
