No you can't assume they have adequate security.  However:

1)    It doesn't matter, if you have consent, as Schedule 4 provides for
consent to over-ride Principle 8 (provided it's specific, informed and
freely given, etc, as set out in the Directive).

2)    It could be that no security at all is still "adequate" in all the
circumstances.  Only you can make that judgement (or the courts if anyone
thinks you got it wrong, of course).
