Mark Norman expressed concerns about the census questions. I imagine the answer is that the questions are covered by law therefore must be completed. Like Mark I pondered about why employer's name and address were needed when type of employer has already been requested. I can see little reason for needing this for the purposes which the information accompanying the census form says it will be used for. I can think of many more questions which could have better helped future policy than that one. For example - why do I use my car to get to work - answer - the bus services take twice as long, the rail service involves four changes and costs three times as much! That might guide some policy changes! But how does knowing I work for Kingston University help? Perhaps the census office will try to sell us statistics telling us how many people work for us - could be interesting.
